While the regular admission prices to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden cannot be called frugal, the botanic garden in Coral Gardens do have free admission days a few times a year, so it surely does deserve a spot here at Florida Free and Frugal.
There is plenty to see at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the grounds are kept in top-notch shape. The surroundings are beautiful, and my family especially enjoyed our walk around in the jungle.
I personally love orchids of all kinds, and the botanic garden had them in trees everywhere, which was one of my favorite features of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
Walking around in the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, was like walking around in my own neighborhood....but without the houses, the streets and all the traffic. Many of the plants and flowers can be seen all over South Florida, but it was nice to finally be able to put a name to some of them.

Another one of my favorites was the edible garden, which contained most of the produce and herbs that I grow in my small city garden. You could find everything from mangoes, to avocados, hot peppers, cilantro and tomatoes.

My big boys and I went for a little detour down to a hidden waterfall, which the boys loved, and we actually managed to get lost from my husband and the little one for a while. The boys had fun on their adventure, while I was upset at myself for leaving the phone in the stroller.
The hidden waterfall had beautiful water lilies, but there were also spooky spiders and other interesting critters.

Beautiful glass sculptures could be found all over the botanical garden, and the colorful glass art blended in perfectly with the lush tropical surroundings. Other artwork such as that of French artist Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne was also exhibited in the garden.
