Borders is in the process of closing down 200 of their 500 Borders book stores across the country including at least 15 Borders stores in Florida. I am sad to see that the Borders in Aventura has already closed, and the Borders on Sunrise Boulevard next to the Sawgrass Mills Malls is closing down as well. You can find a full list of the Borders store closings at the Borders.com

I went to the Borders on Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation (next to the Sawgrass Mills Mall) yesterday, and they were having a three day close-out sale. It did not state whether or not this was the end of the store, and the Borders employees could not give out any information.
To find out whether or not your local Borders store has closed, give them a call. This is what I did, and I managed to use my last Borders Bucks before they left my part of South Florida. While the Borders closing in Plantation accepted Borders Bucks, they do not accept any Borders coupons.
Most fiction books including bargain books at 50 percent off.
Biographies 70 percent off
Politic books 70 percent off
Reference books 50 - 60 percent off
DVDs 50 percent off
Audiobooks 50 percent off
There were still lots of books left, but there were also many empty shelves, and the percentage off is of the list price.

If you have a closing Borders store nearby make sure to give them a call. The close-out sale at the Borders on Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation is having the above mentioned-sale this week Monday 4/4 to Wednesday 4/6, and they are selling everything down to used file folders. Although the sale is supposed to end on Wednesday, it may continue afterward if there is inventory left, so make sure to give them a call.

I haven't lived in South Florida for 3 1/2 years, but I'm very sad to hear that my 2 favorite Borders stores (Plantation & Ft. Lauderdale) have closed.
